The YOUMed Academy houses a variety of programs essential to the field of health.
Programs within this academy include Dental Assisting, Fitness Training: Mental Health & Wellness, Integrated Health Professions, Pharmacy Technology and EMS programs. The two-year programs within this academy offer innovative and integrated learning environments designed to provide scholars with the medical skills and training necessary to succeed in post-secondary education and/or to transition into the workforce. The comprehensive programs within this academy provide scholars with hands-on clinical and laboratory experiences.

Dental Assisting
Basic dental assisting skills and employability skills
In this program, scholars will develop their skills and knowledge in the dental assisting profession, sciences in dentistry, oral health and prevention of dental disease, infection prevention in dentistry, occupational health and safety, patient information and assessment, foundation of clinical dentistry, radiographic imaging, dental materials, assisting in comprehensive dental care, and dental administration and communication skills.
Throughout the school year, scholars are trained and taught according to industry standards. A focus is on obtaining basic dental assisting skills and employability skills. Scholars will be provided opportunities for advanced placement, job shadowing, and involvement in HOSA all of which are designed to strengthen scholar knowledge by putting classroom learning into action. Upon completion, scholars will have the skills needed to gain employment into entry-level positions in the field of dentistry or pursue continued education in the form of university, college, or industry credentials.

Integrated Health Professions
Preparing for healthcare careers
The Integrated Health Professions program is designed to prepare students for diverse and rewarding careers in the healthcare industry. This two-year program provides students with a strong foundation in medical knowledge, technical skills, and professional competencies essential for success in today’s health professions.
During their junior year, students will explore the fundamentals of healthcare through coursework in infection control, interpersonal and written communication, medical law and ethics, patient privacy, and documentation. These essential skills prepare students to understand and uphold the standards of quality care, safety, and professionalism expected across all health-related fields.
In their senior year, students will have the opportunity to specialize in one of several focused career pathways, including:

Through hands-on learning, clinical experiences, and industry-aligned training, students graduate from the Integrated Health Professions program with the skills, certifications, and confidence to enter the workforce or continue their education in healthcare.

Fitness Training:
Mental Health & Wellness
Healthcare, personal training and more
The Fitness Training: Mental Health and Wellness Program provides scholars with the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue careers or further education in such fields as healthcare, personal training, nutrition, exercise science, and/or wellness. The class focuses on human anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, exercise metabolism, nutrition, and the components of health and wellness. Scholars learn how lifestyle choices contribute to disease and chronic conditions, and how to guide, support, and motivate clients to make positive lifestyle changes using movement, nutrition, and mental and emotional wellbeing techniques. The program emphasizes the development of skills needed to design and manipulate regimens to work with healthy or symptomatic individuals, assess psychology and sociological aspects that influence participation in exercise and physical activity, and identify the tools to develop and manage health, fitness and wellness initiatives throughout the lifespan. In the lab, scholars will learn to select, perform, and interpret results from a wide range of client fitness/health/wellness assessments, and they will be able to use this knowledge to design client-specific programs.

Pharmacy Technology
Hands-on experience in pharmacy
Our two-year Pharmacy Technician Program offers a unique opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to gain hands-on experience in the fast-paced world of pharmacy.
Our comprehensive curriculum covers essential pharmacy topics, equipping you with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the field. You’ll learn about pharmaceutical calculations, medical terminology, brand/generic medications, pharmacology basics, and ethical considerations in healthcare.
Throughout the program, you’ll have the chance to earn valuable certifications, including CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Technician), CPR, Stop The Bleed, Bloodborne Pathogens, and NIMS (National Emergency Management Systems). These certifications enhance your job prospects and open doors to various career paths.
Our program prepares you for a diverse range of exciting careers in healthcare. From retail and hospital pharmacies to pharmaceutical research and emergency medical services, you’ll have the opportunity to find a path that aligns with your interests and passions.Beyond the academic aspects of the program, you’ll also benefit from a supportive community of students and faculty who share your enthusiasm for pharmacy. EMS
Training for professional pre-hospital care providers
Entry-level training for the professional pre-hospital care provider. Learn the fundamentals of BLS (Basic Life Support), human anatomy and physiology, assessment-based care of medical and trauma emergencies, extrication, and transportation. Obtain management strategies, triage, and documentation skills. The course consists of classroom lectures, simulation labs, skill practicals, and both clinical/field rotations.
Successful program completion permits eligible candidates for the National Registry Exam required for the State of Ohio. (EMT certification is required by the State of Ohio for the advancement of Advanced EMT or Paramedic Level.) Students also earn AMCA EKG Technician Certification and AMCA Phlebotomy Technician Certification.
